Truly are an invaluable evidence of the history of India.
These letters have raised my curiosity about the legendary King Chandragupta and his how his reign would have been. They truly are an invaluable evidence of the glorious history of India.

Udaygiri Pahad (mountain) is a location of great importance; archaeologically, historically and also artistically. It has one of the best ‘Brahmi’ inscriptions from the Gupta period. I say artistically as the natural texture for the canvas or medium provided by the rocks, their colour and more importantly the inscriptions themselves are a splendid example of lettering design.
Away from the main and populated areas, a short distance from the well-known Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh is a cluster of caves cut into rocks of a sandstone hill. They are of a great historical and archaeological significance as they have in them some of the oldest surviving Hindu temples and well preserved inscriptions from the time of Chandragupta II and Kumargupta I. They were the renowned warrior kings of the Gupta dynasty. The inscription in Sanskrit is called the Chandragupta Inscription of Udaygiri. These letters have raised my curiosity about the legendary King Chandragupta and his how his reign would have been. They truly are an invaluable evidence of the glorious history of India.

If you looked at them with the eyes of an artist, you will surely be impressed by the lettering design, unique shapes and the curvaceous forms of the letters. It is a well preserved site and to me one of the most amazing finds of my journey across India.
